Remember the last time you slept like this? Of course you don’t. Wikipedia Commons.
Sleep.
The word alone is enough to make any 1L reminisce about time immemorial – that long forgotten era, before the casebooks and the highlighters, before the outlines and the study groups. When eight hours could pass without pondering about the market necessity of contracts of adhesion. But alas, that time has passed (and if you’re going for Big Law, it might not come back until those social security checks start rolling in). Just remember, there’s no LRAP for sleep debt; you’re going to pay that bill one way or another.
But I get it, you’re a busy law student, and that Thursday night isn’t gonna drink away itself. So here are some easy ways to make those repayments without killing your social life.
- Wear sunglasses to class – a full-proof way to get 2 hours back during Civ Pro.
- Take micro-naps – those 10-15 seconds can really add up (hey, it worked in A Nightmare on Elm Street).
- Nap on the Metro – your commute has never been so restful (or so lucrative for that pickpocketing stranger sitting next to you).
- Rest on Sunday – it was good enough for Yahweh (although I bet he didn’t have a LRW memo due on Monday…).
Try these helpful tips and just remember 1L’s, you can’t reach your dreams unless you take the time to sleep.
