How to send mail and packages from Gewirz

For many students, home sweet home. You know what I liked? That little booklet they gave us during orientation with tips on how to survive an entire year living in a building full of law students (mostly 1L’s, to boot). Unfortunately, the booklet wasn’t wholly comprehensive, as some students have found out.
For example, there was nothing in the booklet about the potential illegality of climbing onto the roof, using the convenient scaffolding and given the obviously irrelevant lack of stairs or guard rails. More importantly, there was nothing in the booklet about the fact that there are cameras everywhere, including on the roof, and that security guards run surprisingly quickly.
I digress. This post is about how to send mail from Gewirz, because that’s not covered in the booklet either. I’ve seen enough boxes from Zappos and Piperlime that I’m sure many of my fellow Gewirzians have run into the issue of how to mail back giant return packages. Here’s how you do it, courtesy of my spectacular RF, Anne Young. (Hi Anne!)
1) Letters and letter-sized mail
There is a mail drop box in the Gewirz lobby next to the mailboxes. It is in a corner on the left hand side of the doorway that leads to the garage staircase. This will only fit letters though.
2) Packages and non-letter-sized mail
Visit the mailroom in McDonough 104, near the SE entrance next to the book store. The mailroom can only label and ship GULC business, but you are free to drop off packages that have pre-paid postage. In other words, you can pay for shipping online, print out a shipping label, and put that on your box. Then, simply leave your package with the mailroom, which is a pickup location for Fed Ex and USPS. They also have USPS and Fed Ex boxes and envelopes for sale. The mailroom just don’t take payment for the actual shipping, so that part would have to be done online.
There is also a UPS store in Union Station, and a USPS post office on the side of the postal museum on North Capitol and Massachusetts.
