Probably the best sport ever

If our forefathers could see the amazing advances we’ve made in the modern world, I’m sure they would be both astounded and proud of the direction mankind has followed.

Or they’ll see stuff like this.

Once again, I must commend the great nation of Japan. That looks like a ridiculous sport, yes, but at least their kids are active enough to play sports. Plus, they can also do math. And science. Also, music.

Also, the American education system might be in need of some reform.

I should probably just call this The Jeremy Lin Blog

I checked the score on my iPhone during sushi/sake with the girls and announced it to the table, at which point, a random man at the table next to us enthusiastically joined our conversation and proclaimed his excitement about the Knicks win.

“Did you say Jeremy Lin? They won?”

Yes. And yes, 90 to 87.

“I was at Madison Square Garden the day they played the Nets. I put him in my fantasy basketball team that night. That night.”

“He’s been talking about it all evening.” His date said, with a really understanding look for someone whose boyfriend was obviously slightly preoccupied on Valentine’s Day.

After last night’s down-to-the-wire win, Lin now has the highest total score for the first five starting games of any NBA player in history. Talk about building up a fan expectations.

Jeremy Lin, Landry Fields, and "the nerdiest handshake in NBA history"

I promise to stop posting about Jeremy Lin soon, but this was too good not to share. The Mercury News brought this adorable video to attention.

“Jeremy Lin and Landry Fields of the New York Knicks may comprise the most intelligent starting backcourt in NBA history….So it’s not surprising when Lin and Fields unveiled what has to be the nerdiest pre-game handshake in league history. The choreographed skit features the two skimming through an imaginary book, taking off their glasses and then placing them inside pocket protectors.” Mercury News

Watch the video here. Sound’s not necessary, so feel free to click in class.

Linsanity: a brief introduction to Jeremy Lin

I’ll be honest. I’m a casual basketball fan at best, and I really only actively enjoy the last ten minutes of play.

However, I am Asian-American, and I do love a good story. The Jeremy Lin phenomenon (“Linsanity”) is captivating, not only because the man has become a hero for Asian Americans, but also because his underdog story has given casual fans like me a reason to watch basketball again.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, or if you’ve actually been doing your reading instead of watching basketball and then writing about it on the internet, here’s a quick primer on Lin’s sudden ascent, courtesy of the NY Times.

And here’s a short recap, if you’re too lazy to read the Times piece:

Top 10 NFL "Free Agents"

My cousin moved to DC recently for her new job as a first year associate (this is our future, so listen up ladies). After working for about a week, she mentioned that she was surprised to learn that it’s true what they say: you should always know what’s going on in sports. Three of her coworkers asked if she had watched the Redskins game that weekend, and she was relieved to say she had – because her boyfriend made her watch with him. Maybe its time girls learn a little bit about football. And not just for the office. There are more reasons women can love the NFL, and I am about to give you 10.

We already know that the NFL boasts some of the most attractive men we’ve ever seen, and that celebrities seem to be all over them. Even those of us who aren’t interested in sports know Tom Brady (the baby mama drama and his marriage to Gisele), Reggie Bush (he dated Kim Kardashian for how long?), Miles Austin (also Kim’s ex), Tony Romo (all of Dallas hated Jessica Simpson for a while), and Hank Basset (Kendra allegedly dumped Hugh Hefner for this guy). Some of you might even know Jay Cutler as the jerk who dumped Kristin Cavallari days before their wedding. But gossip isn’t the only reason for women to pay more attention to NFL football; it’s these totally single football hotties:
