Student "robbed and assaulted" near McDonough Hall

Student robbed near campus on Sep. 5.An unidentified man “robbed and assaulted” a Law Center student outside of McDonough Hall on the night of Sep. 5, according to the Department of Public Safety. In a crime alert sent to the Georgetown Law community, Public Safety Director Edward Piper described the attack and announced increased security around the campus.

“During the robbery,” Piper wrote, “the suspect forcibly removed the victim’s umbrella from her hand and ripped it apart.” He added that “the victim was struck in the face with the umbrella.”

According to the female victim, who was not identified by name, the attacker struck on 2nd Street as she approached Massachusetts Avenue. Piper described the suspect as “as a black male, six feet tall wearing a green baseball hat and a white shirt. He was also carrying a drawstring backpack.”

He remains at large.

Director Piper encouraged community members to stay vigilant, writing, “Please be aware of your surroundings and if you feel unsafe or see suspicious activity call DPS at 202-662-9325 or utilize the call boxes located throughout the campus. DPS will also escort you to your vehicle or any location on campus. We will be increasing our exterior patrols of the campus to help deter future criminal activity.”
