PANEL: The Healthcare Individual Mandate: Is It a Tax? 

On Wed, Mar 28, 2012, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Tax Council and the Office of Graduate Programs will host a panel discussion on: “The Healthcare Individual Mandate: Is It a “Tax?” The panel discussion will take place in Hotung 2000 and will be followed by a reception in the second floor lobby of Hotung. The event will begin with a panel discussion featuring Robert A. Long of Covington & Burling, who will argue the Anti-Tax Injunction issue in the Supreme Court earlier in the week. DEBATE/PANEL: Constitutional Originalism  

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 1:30-2:30 p.m., in McDonough 201, the Georgetown Law American Constitution Society and Federalist Society will co-host a debate on constitutional interpretation. The debate will feature two speakers who will represent an originalist viewpoint versus a living constitution viewpoint. GULC Professor Lawrence Solum will debate Northwestern Professor Robert Bennet. The professors have co-written a book as a point-counterpoint on originalist interpretation.
